Simon Willison : Sorry PR people: you're blocked - Sorry PR people: you’re blocked. I was added to some PR mailing lists a few months ago and they appear to be spreading my address around like a nasty disease. I’m tempted to contribute some addresses to Chris Anderson’s block list.
plasticbag : Chris Anderson's brilliant piece on PR people getting blocked from his blog - I imagine he has to deal with at a whole other level of stuff to me. PR people are sending unsolicited commercial e-mails. It is spam! And they're trying to commandeer the conversation. It may be inevitable, but it's also repulsive!

plasticbag : Motion Blur interrogates my belief that PR is an intrinsically more cynical and fake process than human self-representation and expression on blogs (or elsewhere) - This is another articulation of the idea that since all human beings attempt to make themselves look okay, that they're engaging in public relations, which in turn acts as a de facto license for any kind of marketing, advertising or pr strategy...

plasticbag : Merlin Mann is in a similar state with regards to PR people... - Lovely graphic he's posting. That other people are feeling the same way maybe indicates that the PR people are upscaling their assault on webloggia?

plasticbag : Stephen at PRBlogger has put up a big post warning PR people not to spam bloggers... - I have to be honest, Stephen has done his utmost to make this (limited) situation right and I can't thank him enough. If his post gets the attention of people in the PR industry that'll be a really good start.

They're no better than spammers.

plasticbag : Wikipedia's article on Astroturfing - I'm increasingly aware that the future of lying and propoganda lies in social media and astroturfing. It's a problem we should really be looking towards more seriously.

plasticbag : A spoof of Al Gore that was put on YouTube, allegedly made by a teenager, may have been made by a PR firm with Exxon as a client - Wow, this is super low and horrible. Makes the whole Cillit Bang thing seem like a real PR victory in comparison. This is like Ethicopocalypse. I don't understand how these people sleep at night.
